When a chuck without pull-back and compensation clamps a workpiece, the jaws may lift, pushing the shaft away from the center positioning. If the force from the tailstock cannot overcome this lifting force, it can result in the bending of the workpiece.
The tailstock only needs to support the workpiece, while the 3 jaw power chuck pulls the workpiece towards the center point, preventing any bending. This ensures excellent coaxiality of the machined shaft. When the outer diameter of the shaft is not coaxial with the center hole, the compensating function of the jaws becomes particularly effective.
